Hi all—I’m embarking on a little (unofficial) side project to document the stories of health care providers around the world and am asking for your help.
What: This project is purely personal/non-academic. The idea came about during my time at LSHTM—I’ve met many incredible people doing incredible things in health care around the world, and I want to interview you and record your stories via audio. This may turn into a series of podcasts or blog posts (and of course, you would have final say in what information you’d like to be made public).
Why: I’d like to understand, anecdotally, how the experience of medical training / of giving care differs—or maybe is similar—from place to place. I’m especially interested in international comparisons of health systems (the topic of my MSc summer project). From a personal standpoint, hearing from you all will give me some helpful perspectives to think about as I start medical school in the US this fall. I want to develop my interviewing skills (in which I have no experience, given my quantitative background). Plus, I hope this becomes a way to showcase some of the incredible things my classmates (you!) have done.
Who: People involved in health services—physicians, nurses, midwives, therapists or any other care providers.
What I want to learn about: You—including reflections on your health care training/experience, what might be unique about your experience in your country, favourite/poignant stories from your work life. Or really, whatever you’d like to talk about that might be tangentially related. This project is about having conversations, about sharing and capturing stories from our lives.
How/where: We meet for coffee or tea somewhere near LSHTM. (As a thank-you, the coffee/tea/beverage of your choice will be on me.)
When: Interested in meeting? Please sign up for a time here.
Please feel free to reach out to me for more details via the booking form (or via phone/email, if you know me and have it!).
What to expect?
A casual conversation relating to your work experiences. I’d love to hear your reflections on your health care training/experience, what might be unique about your experience in your country, favourite/poignant stories from your work life. Or really, whatever you’d like to talk about that might be tangentially related. I will have some questions prepared, but we can go completely off-script.
As long as you want. Generally around 30-45 minutes, but can be shorter or longer depending on your availability. If you would like to book more than an hour please book two time slots.
This is an audio project only—no video will be taken. You can specify before or after the interview what you would like to share publicly, and I will not publicly share any information without your consent.
